Where to Stay in Ubud

If you want to stay somewhere fancy and away-from-it-all for one or two nights, there are many upscale resorts to choose from. These are not particularly close to Ubud but are stunning and might be suitable if you want some downtime before exploring. I find resorts a bit boring after one night since often you can't get out of them easily…plus I can’t afford them post covid!


When travelling, I almost always go for a city-center hotel which is smaller or more boutique. I have listed some good ones below under Mid-Range Town Hotels. These are all walking distance from ‘stuff’ in Ubud, like cafes and restaurants.


The list below is in more-or-less price order from highest, and I have also listed some lower mid-range hotels and cheap and cheerful options (this is US$).



UPMARKET +US$200 per night


Alongside the Ayung River and surrounded by rice paddies this five-star resort is 4km from downtown Ubud. It’s luxurious (and pricey) with private pool villas and suites. There are a number of restaurants and a kids club, making the resort suitable for honeymooners and a well-heeled family.


Capella Ubud is a stunning spot just a 25-minute drive north of Ubud. Inspired by the early European settlers, the resort offers a unique experience with 22 luxurious one-bedroom tents and a family lodge. Each tent has a spacious outdoor deck and a private saltwater pool overlooking the Keliki Valley. There are two fabulous restaurants, and in the evening, you can sit by the campfire and listen to local storytellers.


Whether you're a couple or a family looking for the perfect escape, this family-run retreat ticks all the boxes. Located close to the centre, they have 40 premium villas, each with a private infinity pool overlooking the lush jungle. The Viceroy is home to an amazing spa with accredited therapists who offer a wide range of treatments, and the restaurants are sensational. The Aperitif bar is one of our favourites to enjoy delicious drinks before meals.


Nestled away in the charming village of Sayan, just a quick 10-minute hop from Ubud centre, the Four Seasons is a riverside sanctuary. The resort boasts two fantastic restaurants and 60 stunning villas and suites, with either view of the rice paddies or the lush tropical jungle. From yoga sessions to village walks and even captivating Balinese dance performances, the Four Seasons offers a whole range of complimentary activities for you to enjoy.


Kayumanis is the ultimate wedding destination. Located just 15 minutes from Ubud, the resort blends the essence of traditional Balinese villages with the lushness of a tropical forest. Each villa at Kayumanis has a private pool, a cosy study, and even a kitchenette. Get treated like royalty as you indulge in luxurious spa treatments or enjoy culinary delights in the restaurant serving contemporary Western dishes and classic Thai cuisine.


Bisma Eight (closest to Ubud)

This award-winning boutique hotel is just a short 10-minute stroll from Ubud Palace, featuring 38 incredibly designed suites. If you're looking for more privacy, there are 12 luxurious villas just 500 meters away from the main hotel with open-air living spaces and private gardens with pools. The restaurant on-site blends Mediterranean flavours with the mouth-watering cuisine of Bali that will leave you craving for more.


Home to the famous infinity pool with an Instagram-worthy jungle backdrop and several restaurants, Chapung Sebali is a designer escape just 20 minutes north of Ubud. The resort combines traditional Indonesian architecture with contemporary Scandinavian interior in the luxurious suites and villas perched above the breathtaking Wos River Valley.


Como Ubud (close to the Festival Hub)

Just 15mins out of town, nestled amidst rice fields and serenaded by the river Oos, you'll find the incredible COMO Uma Ubud with 46 stunning suites. The Bamboo Nest in the private part of the resort is perfect for those intimate receptions or dreamy wedding ceremonies.



UPPER MID RANGE $100-200 per night


Situated in a quiet area, Adiwana is still within walking distance of popular sights, shops and restaurants in central Ubud. This is a boutique resort perfect for real and wanna-be yogis with ayurvedic spa treatments and yoga classes. There is a lovely infinity pool, and the restaurant has local and international cuisine.


Just a quick 5-minute walk away from central Ubud, the Ibah is set in an area that was originally owned by the Royal Family. Feel the local vibes as you roam around the resort, designed in traditional Balinese architecture with an awesome outdoor pool nestled between a gorgeous stone garden and fishponds.


Some of Bali's most talented designers have come together to create this boutique resort with 106 elegant rooms at the bottom of Ubud's famous shopping street, Jalan Hanoman. LOWER MID RANGE to $50-100 per night


Nestled into the rice fields and less than 1.5km away from Ubud’s centre, these villas are conveniently situated close to sightseeing attractions, boutiques and unique dining options. It’s small, with just a handful of rooms and villas with rice field views, and there’s a small pool, spa and a farm-to-table restaurant.


This incredible Balinese-style hotel is just a 10-minute walk from Ubud's famous Monkey Forest. The hotel offers rooms with private balconies, the perfect spot to unwind and soak up the Balinese atmosphere. Surrounded by tropical gardens, there is a large outdoor pool where you can take a refreshing dip and relax under the sun. Each room at Padi Puri is air-conditioned and includes amenities such as a minibar, a safe, and satellite TV.


This wonderful hotel is located on the edge of the Wos River, surrounded by coconut trees and terraced gardens, and is only a 5-minute drive from Ubud town. This super cool pop-up hotel by The Udaya Resorts & Spa is located on Jalan Pengosekan, the perfect gateway for exploring Ubud's artistic and cultural charm on foot. INEXPENSIVE $30-50 per night


Named after the fragrant wood highly regarded in Bali for its quality carvings and traditional treatments, the Cendana Resort & Spa is just a 5-minute walk from the famous Monkey Forest. The resort beautifully incorporates historic Balinese architecture, offering a range of room options with four-poster wooden beds and a private balcony. The Sun Rise Restaurant offers a buffet breakfast and international cuisine for dinner options. This place is great value!


The Pertiwi Bisma 2 features an infinity pool and an open restaurant, creating the perfect setting for a memorable stay. The resort lies within walking distance to Ubud Centre and offers 32 lavishly decorated bedroom suites and 5 Villas, each with a private patio amid tropical gardens. The friendly staff can arrange Balinese dance classes, trekking, and hiking activities upon request.


Offering you the best of both worlds, the Bed and Breakfast is nestled amidst lush rice fields but just a short stroll away from the vibrant heart of Ubud. CHEAP AND CHEERFUL <$30 per night


On Jalan Monkey Forest, each room of the Fibra Inn Bungalow and Spa features a balcony and a seating area with a work desk. If you're looking for more dining options, there are lots of fabulous eateries located just a stone's throw away.


This 2-star homestay is located just 400 meters from the centre. Some rooms come with a fully equipped kitchen, including a fridge if you prefer to prepare your own meals during your stay. They offer an outdoor swimming pool and a terrace where you can sit back and relax. There is a small supermarket on the premises, perfect for grabbing any essentials or snacks you may need during your stay.


Highly recommended for young couples, this charming Inn is located just 400 meters from Ubud Palace, right in the heart of the action. Look forward to a comfortable and cosy room and a wonderful Balinese family that will take care of you during your stay. Their warm hospitality and local knowledge will surely enhance our experience and make you feel right at home.


A fantastic guest house situated right in the centre of Ubud, just a short 12-minute walk to the famous Ubud market. Each unit comes with a balcony, providing lovely pool views. There is a selection of breakfast options, but Kubu Tropis also offers a shared kitchen to prepare your own meals if you prefer to have more flexibility. Despite its prime location, free parking is available for guests.


Rumah Roda is a delightful family-friendly homestay offering rooms with fully equipped kitchens and kitchenware and open-air bathrooms. The outdoor swimming pool is a great spot to cool off after exploring the vibrant centre of Ubud, just 400 meters away. The homestay has its own restaurant and also offers tours to take you on a journey to explore the social life and traditions of the Balinese people.


The Ganesh Inn is located directly in town on Jalan Hanoman, a street famous for its excellent eateries and shopping options. The rooms are designed in a traditional Javanese style, all offering a garden view. If you’re travelling by car, the accommodation has secure parking despite being in the centre.
