Sports Facilities

If, like me, yoga and meditation is not your thing, and sweating out your stress with others is prefered, there are a few sports options to choose from in Ubud. Check instagram as the first step to finding these facilities and joining games.

Padel padel padel!

I got addicted last year and now I'm fighting my own aching body to play five times a week. I'm not even very good. There are other sports opportunities in Ubud, but the town is now a little obsessed. It might even be the new cult to take over from the wellness crowd. I've never had a problem booking a court but we now have a bit of a court glut, with three new facility openings within six months. It's easy to join a game through the Playtomic app which covers most of the courts, although Jungle Padel has it's own app.

Can't play yet? Join a beginners coaching group to try it out.

  • Bam Bam - My closest and therefore regular facility next to the Titibatu Club in Mas, Bam Bam has 5 courts, a small cafe, sauna and cold baths included in court price, and quality coaches. There is also a good sports physio onsite. Costs from 100k per person.

  • Rodri Ovide Academy - Four fancy new courts in Ubud West, with well known Spanish coaches, free use of gym, pool and other facilities, great restaurant and loads of tournaments and retreats. This is currently the priciest facility, with courts starting from 120k pp, but worth it.

  • Padel of the Gods - 2 undercover plus 1 open air court, with a small cafe and cold plunge pool. Gods offer coaching and tournaments, and are developing the site with planned pool and restaurant. Very inexpensive courts starting from 50k pp. Not ideal when it's raining.

  • Monkey Padel - In Sayan, Monkey is a community-oriented facility with three covered courts and small cafe. Cheap and friendly coaching and play from 60k pp, but not great in super wet weather.

  • Jungle Padel - is up in north Ubud, and a little further away than the others. There are 4 covered courts, a small restaurant, and sauna and plunge pool. They do great tournaments that you can join easily through their own app.

  • Mahima - Another brand new facility with a state-of-the-art gym, three padel courts and two tennis courts. You will find the usual cohort of Spanish coaches, plus there is a small cafe, and the pool and recovery area is being finished at time of writing. From 90k pp.

  • Bisma Padel - A very small facility in the middle of town; I don't know anyone who goes there apart from tourists but it is cheap and convenient if you have a group ready. From 60k pp. I understand they are building a tennis court too.

  • Liga Tennis - Not yet built, but this large facility in Kaliklatang will have 3 padel courts, a cafe, pro shop and ice bath/sauna, and presumably more Spanish coaches. Are there any coaches left in Spain?

  • Arya Ubud Sports Centre - Nice local facility in Singakerta with single padel court, gym and Futsal. It looks like there is just one court here, and I didn't know it existed until today!

Badminton

The national sport in Indonesia, Badminton is widely played locally. Contact the public courts below via instagram to set up a game if you have a group, or let me know if you want to join a games with other foreigners as I have a few friends who play regularly.
